Back in my much more glamorous days of fronting a punk band, one of the main themes I wrote about was the class divide in the US. So, in that vain I present to you Harry Bridges by Rancid:
Live Version from '94 (great concert footage, decent sound)
Album version (better sound)
For anyone interested here is the wiki page for Harry Bridges and Blood Thursday (referenced in the first line of the song).
You can probably guess where I fall on the political spectrum, but I respect all opinions given the person respects mine. So, feel free to discuss.
I am a father, a husband and a scientist. This blog will be a small window into the insanity that is my world.

Punk Rock Friday - $wingin' utter$ - I Got Your Number
In what I view as an homage of bad band names, the ever lasting, poets of punk, The $wingin' Utter$ are covering I Got You Number by the classic British band, Cock Sparrer. The Utter$ were one of the first punk albums I bought way back in '96 or so. I have always loved there music and lyrics. The lyrics tend to be both extremely straightforward but also very poetic - not just your archetypal typical punk rock tunes. At least to me anyway. But this is a cover... so what I am talking about lyrics for?
I chose this song today to reflect my thoughts on the current state of American politics. Assholes in Washington playing with real peoples futures so they can toe the party line. On both sides of the aisle. Typical millionaires having no idea what is going on with real people. If all the annual percentage rates on my loans and credit cards go up, I really don't know what I will have to do... kind of scary.

Punk Rock Friday - Seneca Falls - The Distillers
Today's Punk Rock Friday features Seneca Falls by The Distillers.
For those who are not familiar (I was not until I heard this song and wondered), Seneca Falls is a reference to what is known as the Seneca Falls Convention. It was an very early women's right convention held in Seneca Falls, New York way back in 1848. Over 70 years before passage of the 19th amendment in the US allowing women the right to vote (known as women's sufferage). Enjoy!

NASA Aeronautics News
In a bill before the Senate this week, a proposed change to the long standing leadership of NASA in the area of aeronautics has died. The initial bill had language which would transfer the leadership of aeronautics research in the US from NASA to the FAA.
An amendment passed with a vote of 96-1 to drop the language concerning aeronautics research from the bill and keep NASA in charge of aeronautics research in the US.
I view this as a smart move. Why add more bureaucracy to an already extremely bureaucratic issue? Well done Senate.

Barak Obama is Luke Skywalker
John Stewart with some epic commentary. All full of geeky, Star Wars goodness! Why yes, Barak Obama IS the New Hope. And yes Biden is a Wookiee. And the most obvious reference of all, Sarah Palin is a Wampa from the icy planet Hoth!
May the force be with you!
